"Director Michael Downing is passionate about yoga. This is not a hobby or a second job, this is his life. That dedication is what has helped transform so many lives over the last six years. People come to Yoga For Living for many reasons, but the reason that so many stay and develop a regular yoga practice is because the change in their bodies and in their lives is profound. Michael is proud of the team of instructors who share his passion for yoga and for the nurturing, supportive environment that they provide for the students.
Yoga teacher MaryAnn Jones once said "I love teaching yoga because yoga attracts the best people, the cream of the crop" This could not be more true of the Yoga For Living Kula or community, where students are more than just customers, they are truly friends. As instructors, we continue to learn each day, from our students and for this we are grateful. We invite you to email us and share your personal yoga story. We love hearing how yoga has changed your life. Melinda Downing, Yoga For Living.
'"At Yoga For Living, we believe yoga is about challenging the breath. We do this by putting the body in various poses and remembering to breathe. It's not so much about flexibility of the body, but rather our ability to relax and breathe when we feel challenged in a pose. When we walk out the door and are faced with stressful situations in our day to day lives, we can use that same relaxed breathing to get us through any situation. For all of us no matter what our goals or accomplishments, the next thing for all of us to do...is breathe." Michael Downing, director, Yoga For Living."

"Sisters Yoga is Fresno's first all-female yoga studio. Unlike traditional yoga studios, Sisters focuses on a happier, looser, less traditional form of yoga which includes music that runs from R&B to pop to World. Instructors also incorporate props such as blocks and straps to help students attain correct alignment regardless of their skill level. Classes range from Happy Hour yoga which is more of a "workout", to "Chill Out" which is restorative, gentle yoga. A Pilates mat class, and "Yo-God!" which is Christian-based, free to the community and half of donations go to the Marjaree Mason Center. Sisters Yoga also holds many monthly, dance workout workshops.
Owner Kandis Kliewer and Founder Chaz Russ, who are registered with Yoga Alliance, believe all females need a place where they can nourish themselves away from relationships and responsibilities. Sisters Yoga provides a space where the female yogi (age 7 and up) can tune into her unique melody, the same melody that serves as the soundtrack to her life. This is a place where women can “let their hair down,” learn how to laugh at their misfortunes, tend to the garden of their self-esteem, and amaze themselves with their growing inner and outer strengths."

Joseph Pilates created original pieces of equipment for his exercise system that he called “Contrology.” His studio in New York City had a workshop where he created his designs. Today, there are many different companies that now manufacture Pilates equipment.
The Pilates Movement uses equipment produced by Gratz Industries. Gratz Industries is one of the only manufacturers that produces equipment closest to the original designs. Pilates equipment is different than your typical gym equipment. The equipment has springs, leather straps, wooden and leather handles, and fuzzy foot straps. Through the use of springs, instead of weights, the equipment helps to show you where the muscles are and how they work within the movement. Performing a series of controlled movements that work against the resistance of springs is unlike using your average machine in a gym. |

Yoga means “union” in Sanskrit and is a vital way to re-connect with ourselves and create unity of mind, body and spirit. The practice of pranyama (breathing), asanas (postures), savasana (relaxation) & meditation, improves concentration, flexibility, muscle tone, stamina and the immune system.
Yoga reduces stress and increases one’s sense of well-being. Through regualar yoga practice you begin to cultivate a relationship between the mind, body and breath. When you function from your center you are more calm, focused, and balanced approaching life from a grounded perspective. Pilates can transform the way you look and feel. This series of controlled movements focuses on strengthening the center of the body: the abdomen, lower back, and buttocks, to support the spine and stabilize the body. Pilates can improve posture, flatten the stomach, and create more flexibility. http://lotusyogacentersi.com |

"What makes A Gentle Way Yoga Center Special? More than anything else, it is our students. When you are new it takes awhile to start feeling comfortable at a new Yoga Center, but my heart soars each time a new student attends one of my classes and one of our regular students jumps up to introduce themselves and help the new student with their set-up and props. It is so obvious how much some of you appreciate this Health and Healing Center, and this makes our work so much easier. If you are new to our Center, please visit our Testimonial page and meet some of our students and read how much yoga has helped them.
Thank you for your support! We - the staff a AGW, will continue to study the endless and timeless asanas and philosophies of yoga, so that we may keep our classes fresh and interesting for you."
